ROAD TRIPPIN’

For the past five years I’ve been spending the early season riding Keystone in Colorado. The last two of those years I’ve been choosing to drive down with my Dad and others instead of flying. It’s a long ass trip, about 25 hours without stops. This year it was my Dad, Logan Short and myself. Road trips are fun even when they’re a long haul and we’re lucky that my Dad has a nice truck so the ride is pretty comfy. I travel so much and a lot of the time it involves turning my brain off and just going through the motions. When you’re in a vehicle for more than a day with people you know it’s a different experience and allows for you to get to know those people better rather than hoping the person next to you doesn’t talk to you. Yeah you know you’ve thought it before, don’t judge me haha.

Here’s a few photos from the ride, it was a lot different this year as there wasn’t any snow the entire way. It was cool to see all the sights in a different light and I got a few cool photos east of SLC.

We’ve been shredding the past two days and it’s been amazing. Everyone is here as usual and the jumps are super fun. I’m already so beat from riding so much, but stoked for the coming weeks as it’s nothing but sun in the forecast. Hoping I’ll post a video of some snowboarding one of these days.

OPENING WEEK IN WHISTLER

It’s official, winter is here! Especially on the Northwest as Vancouver has already gotten doused with more than it’s share of snow and Whistler with even more. Opening weekend was super fun, not a ton of pow but a decent base and some fun hit runs were had. I spent the weekend riding with Anthony, Fraser, the Keenan brothers, Leanne, Robin, Amanda and my Dad. Good crew and fun times, plus the sun came out which made it all the better. I decided to stay up for the week and get my legs back before heading to CO and was fortunate enough to be around for a 70 cm dump. I had a solid powder day up Whistler which was followed by another 20 cms, nearly doubling the base since the opening. Lots of snow and unusually cold temps for Whistler, which was great as it kept the snow good from top to bottom, a rare thing in Whistler. You’re usually greeted with cement on the lower half the hill rather than soft fluffy stuff.

The cold temps were the best thing to happen all week because it meant that the snow was prime for Blackcomb opening day. We woke up and got into line early and had great runs all day long, hitting up a solid tree lap more than a few times. It’s always fun riding with the Keenan brothers because they’re both so damn good at snowboarding. I always end up just following whatever line they pick. The next day the girls and I slacked a bit, but headed up around 9 even though it hadn’t snowed much the night before and we figured everything would be pretty tracked. We were so wrong! Robin, Leanne, Ming and myself got cat quality runs on Whistler for the better part of the day and it was bluebird to top it off. Thanks girls for making my first week back on snow so damn good! I had so much fun just riding pow with my friends at one of my favorite places in the world. I miss it already! The last three years of opening week in Whistler have been all time, I hope there will be many more like it to come.
